Cookie policy

The short list of cookies Puff Rate sets, what each one does, and how to say no.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a site stores in your browser to remember things between page loads — who you are, what you prefer. Puff Rate also uses your browser's local storage for some preferences; the same principles apply.

What we use

Essential. Signing in sets session cookies through our authentication service (auth.puffrate.com) so you stay signed in as you move around the site. Our infrastructure providers may set security cookies to protect against abuse. Without these, accounts don't work — they can't be turned off while using one.

Preferences. Settings like your theme and display options are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device as tracking data; they just make the room look the way you left it.

Analytics. On the production site (puffrate.com) we use Google Analytics, which sets cookies (the _ga family) to measure traffic in aggregate — pages read, rough geography, return visits. We use it to understand what's working, not to build profiles of you.

Advertising. None. Puff Rate sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How to control cookies

  • Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. Blocking essential cookies will sign you out and keep you out.
  • To opt out of Google Analytics specifically, use Google's browser opt-out, or block the _ga cookies.
  • Clearing local storage resets your saved preferences.

Changes to this policy

If the cookies we set change, this page changes with them, along with the date at the top.
