Backstory: The OpusX line launched in 1995 when Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr. planted 37 acres of Cuban seeds at Chateau de la Fuente in the Dominican Republic, proving that wrapper-grade tobacco could be successfully grown there. The OpusX 25 celebrates the line's 25th anniversary. The formal name is Fuente Fuente OpusX La Familia X to the 25th Power. The blend is believed to be a variation of OpusX, made entirely of Dominican tobaccos from the Chateau de la Fuente farm in Caribe, though the exact composition has never been formally disclosed.

Release: The OpusX 25 blend debuted November 2021 in a 7 x 50 Churchill vitola, available only through Elie Bleu humidors ($9,250 for 25 cigars, or $70,000 for 144 cigars). The Perfecto vitola was teased at the 2024 PCA Convention and first shipped in very limited quantity (25 boxes) in late December 2024. Nationwide release followed in April 2025 with hundreds of boxes shipped to retailers. Additional vitolas (Lancero, Toro) appeared later in 2025.

Tobacco: The blend has never been formally disclosed by Arturo Fuente. It is believed to be a variation of the standard OpusX Dominican puro blend, likely using tobaccos from Chateau de la Fuente in Caribe. The Churchill reviewer noted the wrapper's flavor was reminiscent of Cameroon tobacco, which is notable given that OpusX is traditionally a Dominican puro.

Color: Based on the Churchill vitola review, the wrapper has an evenly hued appearance with a noticeable reddish tone and moderate oiliness providing a slight sheen. Visible vein network with small, thin veins. Firm roll with slight give. Consistent with a Colorado color classification.

Fun Fact: Each Perfecto comes in a custom metal coffin with a flip-top lid and a small J-shaped hook that lifts the cigar when the coffin is opened. The box doubles as a humidor with a removable tray and Boveda humidification via a false floor, weighing over 17 pounds fully loaded. Each box includes a mysterious key whose purpose Carlito Fuente has said will be revealed in the future.

Fun Fact: The official MSRP splits the price: $58 per cigar and $500 for the humidor box, totaling $1,660 for 20 cigars. However, secondary market and retail prices range from $190 to $350+ per single cigar. 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the OpusX brand overall.
