Backstory: The OpusX line launched in 1995 when Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr. planted 37 acres of Cuban seeds at Chateau de la Fuente, proving that wrapper-grade tobacco could be grown in the Dominican Republic. The OpusX 25 celebrates 25 years of the line that changed the industry's perception of Dominican cigar-making. The formal name is Fuente Fuente OpusX La Familia X to the 25th Power.
Release: First released November 2021 exclusively through Elie Bleu humidors — 88 humidors containing 25 cigars each, priced at $9,250 per humidor ($370/cigar). A second ultra-premium release of 25 humidors with 144 cigars each was priced at $70,000. The Churchill later received wider distribution as the OpusX 25th Aniversario Tributo. Additional vitolas (Perfecto, Lancero, Toro) have since been added to the 25 line.
Tobacco: Arturo Fuente has not disclosed the blend composition. While the standard OpusX is known as a Dominican puro, the company has not confirmed whether the 25 follows the same blend. The reviewer noted the wrapper's flavor was reminiscent of Cameroon tobacco.
Color: Wrapper is an evenly hued leaf with a noticeable reddish tone and moderate oiliness — enough to give a slight sheen. Visible vein network with small, thin veins. Firm roll with slight give.
Fun Fact: The Elie Bleu humidor packaging was so distinctive it earned 4th place in a 2021 Top Ten Packaging Awards list. The cigars ship in a custom OpusX box separate from the humidor, unlike any other OpusX packaging. The green-dominant band with a sunlike yellow and orange behind the X is unique to the 25th anniversary release. The cigars also feature a cedar sleeve and bright orange foot ribbon matching the Casa Fuente line's ribbon color.
